High-performance polymeric materials such as liquid crystal polymers and polymer nano-particle composites have many military applications. The project aimed to study the mesoscopic structure formation during flow processing and characterization of material properties in solid states. Significant progress has been made to model the materials and to understand their rheological properties in melt or solution processing. Electrical and thermal conduction properties of the nanocomposites are characterized by the low volume fraction asymptotic approach. More anisotropic molecular configuration and their impact

Polymerie materials have been replacing other conventional materials like metals, glass and wood in a number of applications. The use of various types of fillers incorporated into the polymer has become quite common as a means of reducing cost and to impart certain desirable mechanieal, thermal, electrieal and magnetic properties to the polymers. Oue to the energy crisis and high priees of petrochemieals, there has been a greater demand to use more and more fillers to cheapen the polymerie materials

Abstract: In this work, the rheology of two types of polymeric suspensions, namely waterborne coatings and polymer/nanoclay and polymer carbon nanofibers (CNF) is studied. The steady shear viscosity as a function of shear rate of a metallic automotive basecoat is measured and the data is fitted to several constitutive models. The pressure drop of the paint flow in a straight circular pipe is measured in a pilot plant, and it is compared with the simulations using the constitutive models.
